      Winter has always been a season which people either love or hate. No matter where we live we always have some strong emotions connected with it and a lot of them revolve around... snow!
   Some love it, some hate it; some play with it creating snowmen, others do everything to get rid of it; some see it all year long and some can only dream about it.
   Because of how many different emotions we connect with snow and how many uses it has it's a perfect theme for the promised fan art contest!
Your task is to create a fan art or fan fiction that will present your favourite character(s) interacting with snow.
Rules

Every entry should revolve around the "snow" theme. The more original you are, the better!

The work must be a Fan Art / Fan Fiction and it should be submitted into the Fan Art

Tutorials and techniques 2It's time to refresh the tutorial journal! Added some new ones and removed those which, after some time, I found a bit misleading.

Where did you learn to draw?
I was using cheat codes from the very start - both my parents are artists + my mum was organizing weekend drawing courses in our very house. You can pretty much say I spent my whole childhood in an art school.
When I was in high school I was attending course preparing for exams into the faculty of architecture. This is the course: www.labirynt.pl
During the first and second year at the university we had some drawing/painting/sculpting lessons but they kinda sucked. Besides they were worth only 1/10th of the ECTS points you could get from pretty much any other subject so nobody gave a shit.

okay, so after a swarm of questions many of which left me with my jaw on the floor... i realized something...
people are afraid of pushing a button to see what it does
okay, to backtrack first. i am self taught in photoshop, had no books had no tutorials, had a borrowed i think 7... dunno which was before cs2 when i started, i learned it by ....pressing a button and seeing what it does
i explored, i tried stuff out.
i had no teachers no schools no education on this stuff
i saw a button i pressed it.
that is how about 9 years ago when i first decided to try and apply digital coloring to early pages of ravine, i was dabbing paint on a page. i came to the point where i had to paint a waterfall. so , just for fun i tried putting scattering on the foam brush i made, a simple thing. and i was gonna see if smudge could be scattered. it had a weird side effect.

United States is North KoreaSo this ex pro basketball player I've never heard of goes to North Korea to visit their dear leader as a publicity stunt orchestrated by some obscure media outlet. Apparently successful, because mainstream media is stupid enough to fall for it, since I saw it on TV over dinner. Anderson Cooper is all like outraged and shit. "How can you meet with a murderer?" Death camps, human rights abuses, etc.
Well, no doubt North Korea is a humongous shit hole, but guess what? It operates on the same basic principles as the United States. Anderson mentioned a few points, and the parallels are just too obvious to miss to anyone with half a brain. But alas, they didn't have any common decency to invite somebody to troll away their "we are the good guys" and "they are the bad guys" message. Obviously, the US is way better than North Korea, but we are talking about principle, and in that respect they are no different at all.

There will always be people who are, on some levels, whether technical or aesthetic or sheer artistic talent, may be considered "better" than you are. Maybe they've had more time to practice. Maybe they have the money for expensive supplies. Or maybe they're one of those people who can seemingly just glance at their medium and make gold. Or maybe it's some combination thereof.
First of all, practice makes better, if not perfect. Over time you may be able to see your work getting better; your best bet is to compare yourself to yourself, not other artists. I can look back through my archives here and in various hard drives and see where I've improved over the years, and no doubt I'll continue getting better. While I consider myself a professional in some media, it doesn't mean that I don't have plenty of room for growth and improvement--I'd hate to think there was nothing more to do after any point other than death!

Creepy Comments...This is a matter that I've held my tongue about for years.  Mostly because I didn't get many comments like this, and when I did I'd simply ignore and hide the comments, but there seems to be a massive influx of people leaving comments like this over the last few weeks, so I feel the need to come out and say something...

Wonder where I get my free textures and stuff?I woulda told you if you asked lol But I know lots of people don't usually want to ask, so I made it easy. I use media militia for random stuff I might need. Like a skull pack for reference for instance, and I use Lost and Taken for any paper textures I could want. Lost and Taken is completely free, though he wouldn't turn down a donation. Media Militia is kind enough to group their freebies together.

Photoshop brushes

Some of you might remember my previous journal with a list of brush-sets I've tried out and found very useful. Today I bring you more!
And honestly I must say that those few new sets contain absolutely everything one needs (I won't join the discussion that a real artist needs only one brush, because it's absolutely true but makes things much less fun and fancy ;))

After downloading and installing a brush set always test every single brush - play with it on a clear canvas, test it in different colours and using different strokes. Pick only those which you like and know how to use, delete the others or at least move them to the bottom of the list, leaving the most often used at the top.
